Trump Uses Ukraine War Rhetoric To Attack Political Rivals

President Donald Trump on Monday used a hypothetical scenario of Russia’s “surrender” in the war on Ukraine to attack his political rivals and the media. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote that even if Russia were to “surrender” and “GIVE Ukraine and the great United States of America, … Moscow and St. Petersburg,” his opponents and the “Fake News Media” would still portray it as a “bad and humiliating day for Donald J. Trump.”

The Republican President has frequently used terms like “radical left” and “fake news” to dismiss Democrats and the media throughout his political career.

The post comes just hours before his scheduled meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as Trump attempts to mediate peace between Russia and Ukraine. Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week but did not secure a deal.

Unlike the previous US administration under Joe Biden, which backed Ukraine against Russian aggression, Trump has a different take on the conflict. He has previously suggested that Ukraine may have to cede some territory and abandon its plans to join NATO to bring an end to the war.

Meanwhile, Zelenskyy had high praise for Trump’s mediation efforts, writing, “Russia can only be forced into peace through strength, and President Trump has that strength.”
