Washington DC [US], July 5 : U.S. President Donald Trump has signed into law the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping legislative package that includes significant tax cuts, increased funding for the Pentagon, and enhanced resources for border security. The signing took place on Friday during a military family picnic at the White House, coinciding with U.S. Independence Day celebrations.
The bill represents a major legislative victory for the Trump administration following months of negotiations with Republican lawmakers, The Hill reported.
“We made promises, and it’s really promises made, promises kept — and we’ve kept them,” Trump said during remarks from the South Lawn balcony. “This is a triumph of democracy on the birthday of democracy. And I have to say, the people are happy.”
The signing ceremony was attended by First Lady Melania Trump, members of Trump’s Cabinet, and key Republican figures including Speaker Mike Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, and Rep. Jason Smith.
The event also featured a dramatic flypast by two B-2 bombers — the same model used in last month’s airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The bill narrowly passed the House of Representatives on Thursday with a 218–214 vote. Notably, two Republican lawmakers — Rep. Thomas Massie and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick — voted against the legislation. It had earlier passed the Senate on Tuesday in a 51–50 vote, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote.
Trump celebrated the passage with a characteristically bold statement: “The Republicans in the House of Representatives have just passed the ‘ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL ACT.’ Our Party is UNITED like never before, and our Country is HOT.”
