Washington [US], June 25: In a series of remarks aboard Air Force One, former US President Donald Trump addressed the Israel-Iran ceasefire, insisting that Iran will not possess nuclear weapons under his watch, while emphasizing that he does not support regime change in Tehran.
Just hours after a fragile truce was brokered between Iran and Israel following escalating military tensions, Trump called for de-escalation and stability, highlighting that “everything should calm down as quickly as possible.”
🗣️ “Iran Will Not Have a Nuclear Weapon”
“Iran’s not going to have a nuclear weapon — that’s the last thing on their mind right now,” Trump said.
“They’re not going to have uranium enrichment, and they’re going to become a great trading nation. They have a lot of oil. They’re going to do well.”
His statement reinforces his long-standing position on blocking Iran’s nuclear ambitions, though he hinted at a more pragmatic approach to diplomacy.
❌ No Regime Change in Sight
When asked about regime change in Iran, Trump dismissed the idea, saying:
“Regime change takes chaos — and ideally, we don’t want chaos. We’ll see how it goes.”
✈️ Israeli Raid Called Off After Trump’s Intervention
Trump claimed that a planned retaliatory strike by Israel was called off after his direct appeal to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:
“They had a lot of planes going… I said, ‘You got to call back the planes. It’s enough.’ And they did — which I respect very greatly.”
He praised both Israel’s restraint and the U.S. precision strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling them a “magnificent hit” that successfully neutralized targets “in the dark of night.”
🔁 NATO, Spain & Ukraine on Trump’s Radar
Looking ahead to the upcoming NATO summit, Trump reiterated his call for increased defense spending by member states, singling out Spain for not meeting its obligations:
“Spain’s not agreeing, which is very unfair to the rest of them.”
On Article 5 of the NATO charter — the clause that commits members to collective defense — Trump offered a cautious interpretation:
“Depends on your definition. There are numerous definitions… but I’m committed to being their friend.”
He also hinted at a possible meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on Ukraine’s plight:
“He’s in a tough situation. Should have never been there.”
Summary: Trump’s latest comments suggest a calculated stance: opposition to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, support for diplomacy over military escalation, and renewed pressure on NATO allies to meet defense spending targets. As tensions cool in the Middle East, the former President appears focused on projecting control while preparing for geopolitical challenges ahead.
