Trump Mulls New China Tariffs, But There’s A Catch—JD Vance Weighs In On Beijing-Russia Oil Deal

In a recent interview, U.S. Vice President JD Vance said that President Donald Trump is thinking about putting tariffs on China since it keeps buying oil from Russia. Vance, on the other hand, stressed that “no firm decisions” have been taken yet because the relationship between the U.S. and China is so intricate.

Vance said this on Fox News when asked if Trump will put tariffs on China like he did on India recently. Last week, the President of the United States said that there would be an extra 25% tax on Indian goods coming into the country because of India’s purchases of Russian oil. This brought the total tax to 50%. India has publicly called the move “unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable.”

Vance said that the issue with China is more complicated because “our relationship with China affects a lot of other things that have nothing to do with the Russian situation.” He also said that Trump is “reviewing his options” and will make a choice soon.

The Ukraine Peace Deal and the Meeting with Putin Coming Up

Vance also talked about the meeting between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin that is set for August 15 in Alaska in the same interview. The summit is meant to reach an agreement to halt the fighting in Ukraine. Vance said that any peace accord is unlikely to make either side completely happy. “It’s not going to make anyone really pleased. He remarked, “Both the Russians and the Ukrainians are probably going to be unhappy with it at the end of the day.”
