Former US President Donald Trump praised the longstanding partnership between the United States and France, calling France “America’s oldest ally” and highlighting their shared commitment to freedom and peace. French President Emmanuel Macron echoed the sentiment, reaffirming the two nations’ dedication to long-term peace during a joint appearance at the G7 Summit.
In a post on X, Trump stated, “France is America’s oldest ally. Our cherished partnership has been a force for freedom, prosperity, and peace from the very beginning.”
Responding to Trump’s remarks, Macron emphasized the unity between the two nations. “Our common objective with President Donald Trump is to build a solid and long-standing peace. The USA and France will always stand on the same side of history,” he wrote.
The leaders participated in a virtual G7 meeting convened by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whom Trump again referred to as “Governor Justin Trudeau of Canada.” The summit focused on marking the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and discussing global stability.
During the meeting, Trump reiterated that the Russia-Ukraine conflict “would have never started if I was President” and spotlighted a forthcoming “Critical Minerals and Rare-Earths Deal” between the US and Ukraine. “This deal will ensure the American people recoup the tens of billions of dollars and military equipment sent to Ukraine, while also helping Ukraine’s economy grow as this brutal and savage war comes to an end,” Trump said on Truth Social.
Additionally, Trump revealed that he is engaged in ongoing discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Talks are proceeding very well concerning the ending of the war and major economic development transactions between the United States and Russia,” he added.
The G7 leaders collectively expressed a desire to end the war in Ukraine through diplomatic means, underscoring the importance of global cooperation amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions.
