Former US President Donald Trump on Tuesday described the Russia-Ukraine war as “senseless” and voiced support for ongoing peace talks between the United States and Russia, asserting that the war “would never have happened” under his leadership.
Speaking from Mar-a-Lago while signing executive orders, Trump said:
🗣️ “Russia wants to stop the barbarianism going on. Soldiers—Ukrainians, Russians, and many Koreans—are being killed by the thousands weekly. We want to end it. This should have never happened.”
His remarks followed four-hour-long talks in Saudi Arabia between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The US and Russia agreed on four key principles, including establishing high-level teams to negotiate an acceptable resolution to the war.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, excluded from the talks, firmly stated:
🗣️ “Ukraine will not give in to Russia’s ultimatums. No agreement made without Ukraine’s participation will be accepted.”
