Washington, DC [US]: US President Donald Trump has urged Congress to pass legislation permanently banning and criminalizing gender transitions for minors. During his address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday (local time), Trump emphasized the need to remove wokeness from US schools, military, and society, calling it “trouble.”
“I want Congress to pass a bill permanently banning and criminalizing sex changes on children and forever ending the lie that any child is trapped in the wrong body,” Trump stated. He emphasized that children are “perfect exactly the way God made them.” Trump added that his administration is committed to eliminating wokeness from American institutions, declaring, “Wokeness is bad. It’s gone and we feel so much better for it, don’t we?”
Call for Missile Defense Shield
The US President also proposed funding a state-of-the-art golden dome missile defense shield to enhance homeland security. Citing the effectiveness of similar systems used by Israel and other nations, Trump stressed the importance of a robust defense infrastructure.
“As commander in chief, my focus is on building the most powerful military of the future,” he said. Trump mentioned that Ronald Reagan had envisioned such a system, but the technology was unavailable at the time. “Now we have the technology, it’s incredible actually,” Trump remarked, urging Congress to fund the project.
Revival of US Shipbuilding Industry
In a bid to strengthen the defense industrial base, Trump announced plans to revive the American shipbuilding industry, covering both commercial and military shipbuilding. He revealed the creation of a new office of shipbuilding in the White House and proposed special tax incentives to boost domestic ship production.
“To boost our defense industrial base, we are also going to resurrect the American shipbuilding industry,” Trump stated, emphasizing the strategic importance of a strong shipbuilding sector.
Criticism of Biden Administration’s Economic Policies
Trump sharply criticized the Biden administration for what he termed an “economic catastrophe” and an “inflation nightmare”. He blamed Biden’s policies for rising energy and grocery prices, stating that the US had faced the “worst inflation in 48 years.”
“As President, I am fighting every day to reverse this damage and make America affordable again,” Trump asserted, highlighting his administration’s efforts to restore economic stability.
Addressing Radical Islamic Terrorism
Recalling the Abbey Gate bombing during the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal, Trump described the event as the “most embarrassing moment” in US history. He announced the capture of the top terrorist responsible for the attack, thanking Pakistan for its assistance in the operation.
“I want to thank especially the government of Pakistan for helping us arrest this monster,” Trump said, noting that the capture was a significant moment for the families of the 13 American service members killed in the attack.
