President Donald Trump has told NATO members to take strong steps to put pressure on Russia, such as putting high taxes on China until the war between Russia and Ukraine is over. Trump posted on his social media site, Truth Social, a plan that he says would rapidly end the war if everyone followed it.
Trump’s plan calls for NATO countries to stop buying Russian energy and work with the US to take measures against Moscow. He also wanted China to pay tariffs of 50% to 100% as punishment, saying that the country “has a strong control, and even grip, over Russia.” Trump said that these tariffs should stay in place until Ukraine and Russia come to a full peace agreement.
He said that the idea was a method to terminate what he called a “deadly, but ridiculous war” that he called “Biden’s and Zelenskyy’s war.” Trump said that 7,118 people had died in the past week, but official numbers from the United Nations and other international organizations have not confirmed this exact number.
Trump wrote, “I’m only here to help stop it and save thousands of lives in Russia and Ukraine.” “If NATO does what I say, the war will end quickly…” If not, you’re just wasting my time and the time, energy, and money of the United States. Many others have criticized the former president’s comments, including officials from the present government and foreign policy specialists who say the ideas are too simple and don’t have a clear plan. There has been no official response from the White House or NATO authorities yet.
