Trump Buys Red Tesla From Elon Musk In Public Purchase At White House

US President Donald Trump made a high-profile purchase of a red Tesla from Tesla CEO and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Head Elon Musk, in a public display on the White House’s South Lawns. The event featured multiple Tesla vehicles, including the Cybertruck, showcased in front of the press.

Trump made the announcement on social media hours before the event, stating his support for Musk and Tesla. During the event, he sat in a red Model X and admired it, saying, “That’s beautiful.” He later confirmed that this was his chosen model. Musk also walked Trump over to a Cybertruck, highlighting its bulletproof feature.

Trump Praises Musk, Calls Him a Patriot

During his remarks, Trump praised Musk’s leadership at Tesla and the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

“When I saw what was happening, I said that I want to buy a Tesla and we just went to the front. He (DOGE Head and Tesla CEO Elon Musk) had four beautiful cars there, and I bought one in front of the press. It was a very public purchase, and they’re beautiful and do a great job,” Trump told reporters.

He further praised Musk, saying, “He’s done a great job… It’s not that he’s a Republican… Sometimes, I’m not even sure what he is in terms of his philosophy, but he’s a great guy. He’s a patriot.”

Tesla Stock Rises Amid Controversy

The purchase comes amid a sharp decline in Tesla’s stock following the US Election Day, as Musk’s political influence and his push to cut federal government spending have sparked backlash. However, Tesla shares saw an uptick on Tuesday following Trump’s support.

Trump also condemned the recent attacks on Tesla dealerships and vehicles, vowing to take action.

“I think (Musk has) been treated very unfairly by a very small group of people, and I just want people to know that he can’t be penalized for being a patriot,” he said.

When asked about potential ‘domestic terrorism’ designations for violent protests against Tesla, Trump responded, “I will do that, I’ll do it. I’m going to stop them.”

Tesla Vandalism and Protests

Across the US, authorities are investigating a series of attacks on Tesla showrooms, charging stations, and vehicles. While some protests have been peaceful, featuring demonstrators chanting “Elon Musk has got to go,” others have escalated into vandalism.

Trump denounced the attacks and warned that further violence would be met with strong measures.

Trump Declines Discount, Won’t Drive the Tesla

During the purchase, Trump emphasized that he paid full price for the Tesla.

“I don’t want a discount,” Trump said. “(Musk) would give me a discount, but if I do a discount, they’re gonna say, ‘Oh, I got benefits.'”

However, Trump clarified that he will not be driving the Tesla himself, as he is not permitted to drive as President. Instead, his White House staff will use the vehicle.
