Trump Blames Biden After Illegal Immigrant Shoots Off-Duty Border Officer In NYC

Washington, DC [US], July 21: Former US President Donald Trump lashed out on Truth Social after an off-duty US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer was shot in the face by an undocumented immigrant in New York City. The attacker, identified as Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a 21-year-old Dominican national, has a criminal record in New York and was previously subject to a deportation order.

Trump accused President Joe Biden’s administration of releasing Nunez after he was apprehended at the border in April 2023. “The Democrats have flooded our Nation with Criminal Invaders,” Trump posted, calling Nunez an “Illegal Alien Monster” and demanding mass deportations and prosecutions to prevent reentry.

According to the New York Post, the incident occurred Saturday night around 11:50 p.m. along the Hudson River in Fort Washington Park, Manhattan. The 42-year-old federal agent and his female companion were ambushed by two men on a moped. After a brief struggle, one of the assailants shot the officer in the face and left forearm.

Despite his injuries, the officer managed to return fire, wounding one of the attackers. Nunez, the alleged shooter, had been repeatedly arrested but was released each time, despite a standing deportation order. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed he had entered the U.S. illegally via the southern border under Biden’s term.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, responding to the political and public backlash, visited the injured officer at Harlem Hospital and reiterated the city’s commitment to removing dangerous individuals from the streets.

“Our goal is to get dangerous people off the streets. Whatever we need to do in our federal laws to ensure that dangerous people are not on our streets, federal authorities need to do that,” Adams said.

The incident has fueled an ongoing national debate over border security, immigration enforcement, and violent crime involving undocumented migrants.
