President Donald Trump of the United States has signed a decree that will have an effect on workers all around the world. It costs all H-1B visa holders $100,000 a year, starting on Sunday.
Media reports claim that the new rule affects all H-1B visa holders, even those who already have visas or are trying to get them renewed. Employees may not be permitted to return to the US after September 21 unless their employers pay a lot of money. The proposal specifies that businesses must pay $100,000 up front to get the visa and then $100,000 every year after that to keep it.
The revelation has made a lot of people in the tech and finance industries very worried, therefore big firms are moving rapidly. Amazon, Microsoft, and JPMorgan Chase are just a few of the big tech corporations and banks that have warned their H-1B and H-4 visa-holding employees not to travel outside the US and to return back before the deadline to avoid becoming stranded.
Cyrus Mehta, an immigration lawyer, wrote on X about the problems that professionals are set to face. He warned, “H-1B visa holders who are out of the US on business or vacation will get stuck unless they get in before midnight September 21.” He also claimed that people who are still in India probably missed the deadline since there weren’t enough direct planes that got there on time.
The adjustment would probably have a major and quick effect on Indian IT workers and outsourcing companies, given they make up more than 70% of all H-1B beneficiaries. This is a huge change in US immigration law, and people are frightened about what it would imply for businesses and skilled workers.
