At the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 2025, US President Donald Trump said that India and China were the “primary funders” of Russia’s war in Ukraine because they kept buying Russian oil.
During his speech, Trump repeated his assertion of “seven wars in seven months,” saying, “China and India are the main funders of the ongoing war by continuing to buy Russian oil.”
The President of the United States also said that the war in Ukraine would not have started if he had been in charge at the time. “It should have taken only a few days, definitely less than a week.” But they have been fighting for three and a half years, he said, blaming world leaders for not ending the war.
Criticism of Europe and NATO
Trump also had harsh words for NATO countries, saying that by buying energy goods from Russia, they were implicitly helping Moscow.
“They need to stop buying energy from Russia right away.” He answered, “Otherwise, we’re all wasting a lot of time.”
Increase in tariffs on India
His comments came just a few weeks after the Trump administration hiked tariffs on India’s purchase of Russian oil. The levies went from 25% to 50%, which is one of the highest rates in the world.
The War in Ukraine Is Being Watched
Trump said of his past connections with Russia, “Of the seven wars that I stopped, I thought that this one would be the easiest because I have always had a good relationship with President Putin.”
The President of the United States said that the conflict, which is now in its fourth year, has gone on for too long because of bad leadership. He said that if he had been president, it would have ended quickly.
