Trump Announces Israel’s Agreement To 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire Proposal, Awaits Hamas Response

WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Israel has agreed to the “necessary conditions” to finalize a proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, pending acceptance from Hamas.

The announcement comes amid growing international pressure to end the prolonged Israel-Gaza conflict, which began in October 2023. Trump stated that U.S. representatives met with Israeli officials on Tuesday and reached a productive agreement aimed at halting hostilities for two months.

“My Representatives had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today on Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War,” Trump wrote on TruthSocial.

He added that Qatar and Egypt—two key regional mediators—will present the final proposal to Hamas. Trump praised both nations for their efforts in helping facilitate dialogue.

“The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal. I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,” he warned.

The ceasefire plan, if accepted, would mark a significant diplomatic breakthrough following months of intense conflict and failed negotiations. Trump’s statement comes less than a week before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled visit to the United States on July 7.

The ongoing war, now approaching its 20th month, erupted on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a surprise assault on Israel, killing over 1,200 people. Since then, Israel has launched sustained retaliatory strikes on Gaza, with the territory’s health ministry reporting over 56,000 deaths.

In January 2025, a three-phase ceasefire was brokered but ultimately collapsed in March when Israel resumed its offensive.

Following his intervention in halting the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran earlier this year, Trump has shifted his focus to brokering a lasting truce between Israel and Hamas. The proposed 60-day ceasefire is seen as a stepping stone toward broader peace efforts in the region.
