Washington DC, June 24: In a major diplomatic breakthrough, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a “complete and total ceasefire” agreement between Israel and Iran, bringing an end to 12 days of intense conflict in the Middle East. The ceasefire is set to take effect within the next six hours and marks a significant step toward de-escalation.
Taking to his Truth Social platform, President Trump declared that both nations had mutually agreed to a phased ceasefire process. According to his statement, Iran will begin the ceasefire first, followed by Israel, resulting in a complete cessation of hostilities over the next 24 hours.
“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now)… for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!” Trump posted.
Trump further explained that each side will maintain peace and respect during the other’s ceasefire window. If successfully implemented, this would officially end what he termed “The 12-Day War.”
“Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World,” Trump wrote.
He praised both nations for showing “stamina, courage, and intelligence” in reaching this historic agreement and emphasized the global significance of avoiding a prolonged regional war.
“This is a war that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will,” he added, ending his message with: “God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”
Background of the 12-Day Conflict
The conflict began on June 13, when Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, a massive airstrike campaign targeting Iranian military and nuclear facilities. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) initiated ‘Operation True Promise 3,’ deploying drones and missiles against key Israeli infrastructure, including fuel and energy centers.
Tensions escalated dramatically over the weekend when the U.S. military launched Operation Midnight Hammer, conducting precision strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites. Iran retaliated with missile attacks on U.S. military bases in Qatar and Iraq, including the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American military installation in the region.
