Agartala (Tripura) [India]: Tripura has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the second-highest state in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) in the Northeast region. Chief Minister Manik Saha proudly announced this achievement on the occasion of the state’s 53rd Statehood Day, emphasizing the state’s progress and development at the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan on Tuesday.
The state’s GSDP growth is expected to positively impact the country’s GDP in the near future. CM Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their unwavering support, which has propelled Tripura’s path toward development.
“A new chapter has begun in Tripura, and this day is a reminder of the people who have worked tirelessly for the state’s progress,” said CM Saha. He acknowledged the Central Government’s swift response during difficult times, particularly during the 2024 floods when additional National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, helicopters, and other resources were deployed to support the state. Despite the massive damage to various sectors during the floods, Tripura managed to recover with the help of the central government.
CM Saha also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace for development and tourism growth. He noted that the state has effectively handled issues, ensuring peace and stability.
The Chief Minister highlighted Tripura’s achievements across various sectors. Regarding the Sustainable Development Goals, he pointed out that the state moved from being a performer state to a front-runner, first-moving state in 2023-24. “Tripura is progressing across all sectors,” Saha stated.
Additionally, the state has been allocated a budget of Rs 28,000 crore, with a revenue of Rs 3,700 crore. After covering various expenses, including salaries, Tripura has a surplus of approximately Rs 10,000 crore, which includes a 25% allocation for the TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) and 10% for ULBs (Urban Local Bodies) and other sectors.
He further mentioned that under the HIRA model introduced by PM Modi—comprising highways, improved flight services, and internet connectivity—Tripura has attracted investments from outside the state. “We have launched the Tripura Startup Policy and UNNATI Schemes. The state government has also implemented the CM Jan Arogya Yojana and is working towards establishing good governance,” said CM Saha. He also highlighted the significant progress made in women’s empowerment, with the number of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) rising to 56,000.
During the event, 15 prestigious awards were presented to individuals for their exceptional contributions, including the State Civil Awards and Statehood Day Awards, recognizing those who have had a significant impact on the state’s progress and development.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CM Saha extended his greetings to the people of Tripura, stating, “Let us pledge today to develop a better and better Tripura through the development and all-around progress of the state with the cooperation of all. On the 53rd Full Statehood Day, I extend my heartfelt love and greetings to all the people of Tripura.”
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his best wishes to the people of Tripura on Statehood Day, praising the state’s contributions to national progress. “Best wishes to the people of Tripura on their Statehood Day. The state is making noteworthy contributions to national progress. It is also known for its rich culture and heritage. May Tripura continue to scale new heights of development,” PM Modi shared on X.
The event was attended by various distinguished dignitaries, including Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Cooperation Minister Shukla Charan Noatia, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, DGP Amitabh Ranjan, DG (Intelligence) Anurag, and ICA Secretary PK Chakraborty.
