Agartala (Tripura), May 21: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday presided over the appointment distribution ceremony for newly selected Food Inspectors at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala. The event marked an important milestone in the careers of the appointees and underscored the government’s continued commitment to strengthening public service infrastructure.
In his speech, Chief Minister Saha congratulated the new appointees and urged them to maintain high standards of transparency and integrity. He emphasized the critical role Food Inspectors play in ensuring food safety and public welfare.
Coinciding with the appointment event, a Mega Blood Donation Camp was organized by the Department of Food, under the guidance of Food Minister Sushanta Chaudhury. The Chief Minister praised the initiative, encouraging youth participation in life-saving causes. “Blood donation is the highest form of service to humanity. We must all contribute in whatever way we can,” he said.
The dual event drew participation from senior government officials, health workers, volunteers, and citizens, demonstrating the state’s commitment to employment generation and public health awareness.
In a separate development aimed at boosting tourism and preserving heritage, the Government of Tripura signed a lease agreement with The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) on Tuesday for the development of a luxury Taj Palace Hotel at Pushpabanta Palace in Agartala. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Saha and Tourism Minister Sushanta Choudhury.
Built in 1917 by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya Deb Barman Bahadur, Pushpabanta Palace is a historic architectural landmark. The project, under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, will convert the palace into a world-class luxury destination as part of the Tripura Industrial Investment Promotion Incentive Scheme (TIIPIS) 2022 and UNNATI 2024.
IHCL plans to develop a 100-room Taj hotel featuring signature suites, wellness centres, banquet facilities, and a 600-square-meter modern convention hall. The heritage building will be restored with care, ensuring both public access and luxury hospitality services.
The project is expected to generate employment and enhance tourism infrastructure in Tripura. IHCL has also committed to hiring local talent, supporting the state’s goals of skill development and economic growth.
Chief Minister Saha described the venture as a “milestone” in Tripura’s transformation into a premier tourist destination. Work on the restoration and development will begin shortly, with the Taj Pushpabanta Palace expected to become a flagship attraction for the state.
