New Delhi [India] : Mumbai Indians pace spearhead Trent Boult is confident that a 300-plus team total will be achieved in the ongoing 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), marking a historic first for the tournament
Out of the 45 matches played so far, a score of over 200 has been breached 23 times. Sunrisers Hyderabad came closest to the 300 mark with their explosive 286/6 against Rajasthan Royals, setting the record for the highest-ever team total in IPL history.
Speaking on JioHotstar’s special series, Boult said, “No doubt, a 300-plus score will be reached this tournament. The ball seems to be travelling further, though I’d like to believe it’s still swinging in some parts of the country. From a bowling perspective, the only positive is that batsmen are coming hard, which creates opportunities. If we stay accurate, aggressive, and focused, bowlers will have their day at some point. That’s what fans want to see.”
Reflecting on his individual performances, Boult highlighted his improvement at the death overs—a phase where he traditionally hasn’t been the most prolific. In previous IPL seasons, he had never taken more than nine wickets at the death, but he has already claimed six in this edition.
Sharing his mindset, the New Zealand left-arm pacer said, “It’s a challenge and an area I’ve always worked on. My mantra has been to keep improving and never plateau. I’m constantly pushing myself to develop new options and strategies. With so many powerful and unknown batters entering the game, clarity and sharp execution under pressure are crucial. It’s all about training hard and being ready when those big moments come.”
