Jhalawar, Rajasthan – On Friday morning, a terrible event happened in the village of Piplodi in the Jhalawar region of Rajasthan. The roof of Piplodi Primary School suddenly fell down, killing at least four kids and injuring many others. Amit Kumar, the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Jhalawar, verified the deaths, saying, “3-4 students die when the roof of Piplodi Primary School in Jhalawar falls down.” A lot of students got hurt. Jhalawar Collector and SP Amit Kumar Budania left for the scene as soon as they got the news. Recent reports say that four pupils have died from their injuries, while eight others have been hurt. Two of them are in serious condition and have been sent to higher medical institutes, while six are being treated at Jhalawar.
Scenes of turmoil and despair rapidly appeared at the scene of the event. A video from the news agency PTI shows people in the area digging through the rubble, feverishly trying to move bricks by hand in a frenzied effort to save those who are trapped underneath. A bulldozer is helping with the rescue efforts, working with hundreds of people who have come to the site of the collapsed building. The school is said to have about 27 children, and officials have confirmed that all of the students who were trapped under the rubble have been rescued and sent to hospitals.
Bhajanlal Sharma, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, said he was very sad about the tragedy. He said in a post on X, “The tragic accident caused by the roof falling off a school in Peeplodi, Jhalawar, is very sad and heartbreaking.” The people in charge have been told to make sure that the hurt kids get the right care. Ashok Gehlot, the former Chief Minister, too expressed his worry and wishes for as few deaths as possible.
PTI says that 17 pupils who were hurt have been taken to a neighboring hospital for treatment. Heartbreaking pictures from the hospital show committed medical personnel caring for the injured children while worried family wait outside, eager for news of their loved ones.
The event has brought up major concerns regarding the safety of school buildings in the area, especially since the rainy season is still going on. several reports say that the Government Higher Primary School was in an old, falling-apart building, and several people in the area say that they had already complained about its state but nothing was done about it.
Madan Dilawar, the state’s school education minister, said that a high-level investigation into the event has begun. It has also been stated that local officials are looking into the structural soundness of other buildings on the school grounds to stop more tragedies like this from happening.
