Mandi, Himachal Pradesh – July 24, 2025 – At least five people, including three women and two men, were killed today after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus plunged into a deep gorge near the Maseran area of Sarkaghat, approximately 60 kilometers from Mandi town. The tragic accident occurred as the state continues to battle the relentless monsoon fury.
Mandi Superintendent of Police Sakshi Verma confirmed the fatalities and stated that around 20 people sustained injuries in the mishap. All injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at Sarkaghat hospital, with several reported to be in critical condition.
Preliminary information suggests the bus was carrying approximately 20 to 25 passengers at the time of the incident. Police and local administration swiftly launched rescue and relief operations, with efforts ongoing to provide assistance and care for those affected. An additional 60 fatalities have resulted from road accidents, often exacerbated by the challenging and adverse weather conditions that have made roads treacherous.
