BAY LAKE, FLORIDA— There are many unverified claims online that say a terrible event at Walt Disney World’s Contemporary Resort on Tuesday night led to a death. Several tweets on social media claim that someone either fell or jumped into the Monorail lines that run through the resort’s A-frame building and were then hit by a train going the other way.
Disney and local officials have not yet confirmed the death or the details of the occurrence, but the fact that there is a large emergency response operation suggests that it was a major tragedy.
WDWNT said that several units from the sheriff’s office and many emergency vehicles went to the Contemporary Resort. Eyewitness reports and videos shared on social media showed a large police presence, with crime scene tape purportedly blocking off a service entry portion of the resort. Some unsubstantiated rumors on social media reportedly said that a body was spotted being taken away from the scene.
As a direct result of the event, guests were not allowed to use the Monorail system that served the resort or the property’s Observation Deck.
According to dispatch files, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office was sent to the resort’s address on Tuesday night for a call that was first labeled as a “dead person.” However, the official reason and nature of the incident are still being looked into. This is an ongoing story, and more official information is expected.
