Moscow: The number of Indian tourists visiting Russia has surged to over 120,000 in 2024, doubling from around 60,000 visitors in 2023, as reported by TV BRICS. In turn, about 160,000 Russians visited India in 2023, surpassing the combined total from 2021 and 2022.
According to the Indian Embassy in Moscow, the increase in mutual tourism is expected to continue, with a projected 450,000 visitors by 2025 if the current trend persists. Russia has also risen to be one of the top ten countries in terms of the number of travelers to India.
India has expressed interest in further liberalizing the visa regime, especially by extending the electronic visa validity. Additionally, simplified travel procedures have been implemented for athletes and coaches, which are expected to boost visits.
The ongoing expansion of air links, along with enhanced cultural exchanges and joint events, will also contribute to the continued growth of tourism. This July, Moscow will host its first large-scale tourism congress, bringing together specialists and key representatives from both nations to explore new opportunities in tourism and bilateral cooperation.
