ORLANDO, FLORIDA — A “quick triple seabreeze collision,” an unusual weather event, caused a tornado warning to be issued for the Lake Mary Jane area, which is just southeast of Orlando, on Monday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) sent out a Tornado Warning for Lake Mary Jane, FL, which lasted until 7:45 p.m. EDT.
Noah Bergren, Weeknight Senior Meteorologist at Fox Orlando, said that a short tornado “may have touched down around 7:15 p.m. EDT around Nova Road just north of 528 in somewhat rural areas.” Even yet, Bergren later said that the immediate threat of a tornado was “probably” dissipated.
Orlando Airport Ground Stop and Weather Warnings
Because of the bad weather, which included a severe thunderstorm warning for the area until 7:45 p.m. EDT, Orlando International Airport (MCO) announced a ground stop for all flights. This step was made to keep both passengers and airport workers safe during the bad weather.
The NWS had warned of a severe thunderstorm and said that Orange County and Osceola County were at the worst risk. The alert made it clear that there was a “significant threat to property or life” in certain regions. The census from 2020 says that Orange County has 642,865 people and Osceola County has 388,656 people.
A “triple seabreeze collision” created the strange weather phenomenon. This happens when breezes from three separate coastlines meet inland. When these two things come together, they make a zone of rising air that can cause thunderstorms and more rain, especially when the winds are weak.
Officials told anyone who lived or were traveling in the impacted areas to stay inside, keep an eye on official weather reports, and obey safety rules until the warnings were canceled. Once the bad weather cleared, it was thought that flights at Orlando Airport will start up again.
