‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Director Joseph Kosinski To Helm ‘Miami Vice’ Remake For Universal Pictures

Washington DC [US], April 29: Joseph Kosinski, the acclaimed director of Top Gun: Maverick, is set to direct a remake of the iconic 1980s crime drama Miami Vice for Universal Pictures, according to a report by Variety.

Dan Gilroy, known for Nightcrawler, will pen the screenplay for the upcoming film. While plot details are still under wraps, the project draws inspiration from the popular NBC series that aired from 1984 to 1989, featuring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as stylish undercover detectives navigating the crime-ridden streets of South Florida.

A film adaptation was previously released in 2006, starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell under the direction of Michael Mann. Despite achieving cult status among fans, the film received a lukewarm response at the box office.

The lead cast for the upcoming remake has not yet been revealed. Kosinski will also produce the film through his banner, Monolith, alongside Dylan Clark of Planet of the Apes and Oblivion fame, who will produce under his own Dylan Clark Productions.

Kosinski, whose Top Gun: Maverick grossed nearly $1.5 billion globally, is also working on his next high-profile film, F1, starring Brad Pitt. F1 is scheduled to hit U.S. theatres on June 27, 2025.
