Top Chinese Official Cai Qi Meets With PM Modi, Signaling A Diplomatic Shift

Tianjin, China— Cai Qi, a strong and secretive member of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC), met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for more than 45 minutes on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. This meeting has been seen as a big diplomatic stride. The encounter, which Chinese President Xi Jinping is said to have asked for, is considered as a sign that the two countries’ relations may be getting back to normal.

Cai is a member of the Politburo Standing Committee and has a lot of power in the CPC. He is known as Xi’s right-hand man and is known for being quite strict. The report says that he doesn’t meet with most foreign leaders in public, so his meeting with Modi is especially important. A source said that Cai did not meet with any other visiting leaders in public during the whole SCO meeting.

Cai is said to have told PM Modi during the meeting that President Xi had personally instructed him to host a lunch, but he later learned that the Indian Prime Minister was not eating. There was no sensitive information in the discussion, but the fact that it was a high-level meeting is considered as a strong message to people in China who have been critical of India.

The meeting between these two prominent people shows that there is a new push for bilateral relations to return to their pre-May 2020 level, with the main goal still being to keep the border safe and peaceful. The research says that India has chosen to move toward a gradual normalization with China. This would mean that the two countries would work together more on issues that affect many countries, such as terrorism, climate change, and fair trade.

Because of the history of problems at the border, the meeting also gives people hope that military leaders will be able to talk to one other about how to deal with and mark off non-contentious parts of the border. People see this uncommon and high-level meeting between PM Modi and the powerful Chinese leader as a good omen for the future of their relationship, which was strained by military concerns just five years ago.
