Tom Felton Returns As Draco Malfoy In Broadway’s Harry Potter And The Cursed Child

Washington DC [US], June 6: Tom Felton, famously known for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series (2001–2011), is set to make his Broadway debut by reprising his iconic role in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

As announced on NBC’s Today show, Felton will portray an adult Draco Malfoy in the hit stage production at New York City’s Lyric Theatre starting November 11. He replaces Aaron Bartz in the role and will perform for a 19-week run. This marks the first time an original cast member from the film series has joined the Broadway adaptation.

Calling the experience “a pinch-me kind of situation,” Felton shared how emotional it was to return to the Wizarding World, especially donning Draco’s platinum-blond wig again. “I cried when I put it on,” he revealed, noting the powerful nostalgia tied to a role that defined his childhood.

Felton expressed his excitement: “Being a part of the Harry Potter films was one of the greatest honors of my life. Joining Cursed Child is a full-circle moment—I’ll be the same age as Draco is in the play. It’s surreal.”

The Broadway production of Cursed Child, which debuted in London in 2016 and later in New York in 2018, picks up where Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows left off—with Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley seeing their son, Albus, off to Hogwarts.

Though the stage play has not been adapted for film, Harry Potter director Chris Columbus previously expressed interest in turning Cursed Child into a movie, ideally reuniting Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

Felton, for his part, has openly embraced the idea of returning to the Wizarding World in any capacity. “Abso-bloody-lutely,” he said when asked about playing Draco again. “I’d play Lucius, Draco’s kid, anyone! Any chance to be a Malfoy again would be greatly accepted.”

Fans can catch Felton’s magical return beginning this fall in what promises to be a nostalgic and thrilling performance for Potterheads everywhere.
