New Delhi: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding an inquiry into financial irregularities at Assam Cooperative Apex Bank. Gogoi alleges that the Assam government is focused on arrests and media intimidation rather than addressing the issue.
Gogoi’s Allegations Against Assam Govt
📢 Sharing his concerns on X (formerly Twitter), Gogoi stated:
💬 “I have written a letter to the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji about the need for an inquiry into the financial irregularities at Assam Cooperative Apex Bank because the state government is busy arresting and intimidating the Assamese media.”
🔍 The call for an inquiry comes amid allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement within the state-run cooperative bank.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Response
🔹 In response, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attacked the opposition, asserting that the NDA government has eradicated corruption, chaos, and criminal appeasement in Assam.
📢 Speaking at a campaign rally for the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections, he declared:
💬 “Under NDA’s stewardship, Assam has shed the baggage of corruption, chaos, and criminal appeasement. The opposition thrives on deception and division, while the NDA builds, protects, and empowers.”
🔹 CM Sarma also accused opposition leaders of trying to mislead the public, claiming that the Rabha people will no longer be manipulated by forces that thrive on underdevelopment.
BJP Assam Chief Backs CM Sarma
🔹 BJP Assam President Dilip Saikia, campaigning in Boko and Dudhnoi, also criticized Congress for treating indigenous communities as vote banks.
📢 “The Congress and its ilk have thrived on betrayal and tokenism. The people of Rabha Hasong deserve leaders who work, not puppets who pander.”
🔹 Saikia emphasized BJP’s governance achievements, including improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and cultural protection.
