Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran has called for immediate police action against a DMK functionary after a video surfaced in which he allegedly issues a death threat against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The controversial clip has sparked intense political reactions across the state.
The 22-second video, whose authenticity could not be independently verify, shows a man identified as DMK member Jeyabalan purportedly making the threatening remark. Due to the sensitive nature of the content, NDTV has chosen not to reproduce the words heard in the clip.
A senior police officer confirmed that they have already received “a few complaints” regarding the video. “We are scrutinising the video,” the officer said. When asked specifically whether the DMK functionary had made the speech, the official responded, “We believe so, and we are investigating.”
The BJP condemned the alleged remarks in strong terms. Party spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy said the incident “proves DMK is a murderous party.” State president Nainar Nagenthran has demanded the immediate arrest of the leader featured in the clip.
The controversy comes at a time when the ruling DMK government is already engaged in a confrontational standoff with the Election Commission over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across Tamil Nadu.
The DMK has accused the poll body of hastily conducting the revision without providing adequate training to field staff—raising concerns that a large number of eligible voters might be wrongly removed from the lists. The party has approached the Supreme Court, seeking a halt to the process.
As of now, the DMK and the leader in question have not issued any response to the allegations or the circulating video.
