New Delhi [India], March 10: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee announced on Monday that his party will be submitting a notice in Parliament regarding the role and functioning of the Election Commission. Banerjee highlighted a significant issue, revealing that three voters have the same EPIC number, which is against the law, and said that the TMC would raise this concern in Parliament.
Banerjee also addressed the upcoming parliamentary schedule, proposing that parliamentary proceedings be held on Saturday, March 15, to make up for the holiday on March 13, which falls during the celebration of Holi. He mentioned that an 8-hour discussion on the Manipur budget would take place today, and that departmental budgets for Railway, Jal Shakti, and Agriculture would be discussed starting March 17.
Meanwhile, as the second part of the Budget session began, opposition MPs staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha over concerns related to the delimitation process and the National Education Policy (NEP). The DMK, in particular, attacked the government over the implementation of the NEP in Tamil Nadu.
In the Lok Sabha, MPs entered the well of the House to protest after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accused the DMK of playing politics with the future of Tamil Nadu students.
DMK MP P Wilson said the party staged a walkout in the Rajya Sabha after the Deputy Chairman refused to allow a discussion on fair delimitation for Tamil Nadu. Wilson stated that the DMK had submitted a notice under Rule 267 to discuss fair delimitation, as the state has seen minimal population growth due to family planning policies. He expressed concern over the upcoming delimitation changes scheduled for 2026.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda criticized the opposition’s use of adjournment motion notices, calling it an attempt to undermine the institution of Parliament. He urged the opposition to familiarize themselves with the rules before submitting such notices and accused them of engaging in “irresponsible behavior.”
DMK MP Tiruchi Siva emphasized that the party’s concern over the delimitation exercise was genuine, warning that if the exercise was based on population, many southern states, including Tamil Nadu, would lose parliamentary representation.
