TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee Pays Tribute To Rash Behari Bose In Tokyo, Urges Restoration Of Dilapidated Memorial

Tokyo [Japan], May 23: Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary and Member of Parliament Abhishek Banerjee paid tribute to freedom fighter Rash Behari Bose at his memorial in Tokyo on Friday. During the visit, Banerjee offered floral tributes and expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of the historic site.

Rash Behari Bose, a prominent revolutionary, played a key role in India’s freedom struggle. He was the founder of the Indian Independence League, a principal organiser of the Ghadar Mutiny, and a contributor to the early development of the Indian National Army (INA). After his involvement in the failed 1912 assassination attempt on Viceroy Lord Hardinge, Bose fled to Japan, where he lived the remainder of his life in exile.

Sharing the emotional moment on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Banerjee wrote:

“Felt a deep sense of pride and goosebumps while paying my respects and offering floral tributes to this great son of Bengal. India remains eternally grateful for his indomitable spirit and pivotal role in our freedom struggle.
It was disheartening to see his memorial in such a neglected and dilapidated state. I have requested our Ambassador @AmbSibiGeorge and @IndianEmbTokyo to take up the matter with the concerned authorities and ensure that this remarkable hero receives the honor he truly deserves.”

Banerjee is currently in Japan as part of a multi-party delegation on a five-nation Operation Sindoor global outreach mission. The delegation also includes MPs from BJP, CPI(M), and other parties. Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and aims to present India’s firm stance on cross-border terrorism to international stakeholders in Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, and Singapore.

Led by Ambassador Mohan Kumar, the initiative seeks to counter global misinformation, highlight India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism, and foster international cooperation.

The multi-group structure includes 7 separate delegations, each led by a Member of Parliament, with the objective of strengthening India’s diplomatic voice and strategic narrative abroad.
