PATNA, BIHAR – Opposition parties are still working together to fight the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over claims of “vote theft.” The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has dispatched two people to the last day of the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Patna. Following orders from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and party leader Abhishek Banerjee, TMC MP Yusuf Pathan and party leader Lalitesh Pati Tripathi are taking part in the rally.
“We are going as Trinamool Congress representatives.” “CM Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are sending us,” Pathan said, stressing that the party fully supports the march. Tripathi said that “vote chori” (vote theft) is the “biggest issue in the country” and that it is the opposition’s job to “raise our voice for the Constitution of the country and to save democracy.”
The Congress-led rally, which started on August 18, was meant to draw attention to the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) alleged mistakes in the voter list and the BJP’s “vote theft.” The 16-day yatra went through 25 districts and covered more than 1,300 kilometers. It went through almost 110 assembly constituencies in the state of Bihar, which is getting ready for elections.
On the last day in Patna, leaders from different parties in the INDIA bloc are likely to get together. Several well-known leaders, such as Akhilesh Yadav, the head of the Samajwadi Party, Priyanka Gandhi, a Congress MP, and MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, have already joined the yatra at different times. Other chief ministers, such Siddharamaiah of Karnataka, Sukhvinder Sukhu of Himachal, and Revanth Reddy of Telangana, were also there.
The fact that the TMC was at the event is a big sign of solidarity among the opposition alliance, especially since some of the parties have had their own political disagreements. KC Venugopal, the General Secretary of Congress, called the yatra a “ray of hope” against the “blatant destruction of democracy.” The TMC leaders agreed with him. The rally’s end in Patna, from Gandhi Maidan to the Bhim Rao Ambedkar Statue, is a strong sign of the opposition’s dedication to upholding democratic values and fair elections.
