Stay mentally active: Keeping your brain busy is important for slowing down cognitive decline and boosting memory. Dr. Chatterjee says that reading, doing puzzles, playing memory games, or learning new skills are all good ways to keep your mind bright and active.

Stay connected with others: Being alone and feeling isolated are two big things that might hurt your mental health. Getting in touch with family, friends, or community groups on a regular basis can greatly boost your mood, lessen your anxiety, and help keep you from getting depressed.

Put your physical health first: Your mental and physical health are linked. For your brain to work well, you need to eat a balanced diet, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly. Walking, doing yoga, or modest strength training are all things that can help memory and thinking by getting more blood to the brain.

Practice Mindfulness and Relaxation: Mindfulness exercises can help you relax and get rid of tension and anxiety. Meditation, deep breathing exercises, and peaceful activities like gardening might help you relax, focus better, and feel better emotionally.

Dr. Chatterjee’s guidance supports the premise that becoming older doesn’t have to mean being dumber. Older folks can actively promote their mental health and live a more happy and vibrant life by adopting these healthy practices.
