The Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), in collaboration with Tibet Theatre, kicked off an India-wide theatre tour with the inaugural performance of “A Fearless Voice” at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts on Tuesday evening.
A Voice Against Cultural Suppression
🎭 The play, performed by Tibetan artists, aims to raise awareness about the Chinese government’s oppression in Tibet, particularly its efforts to erase Tibetan culture and identity. Over the next two months, the artists will travel across Indian cities, visiting Tibetan settlements and schools to spread their message.
🔹 Sonam Tsering, General Secretary of TYC, emphasized:
“Our main objective is to expose the Chinese atrocities, the cultural genocide, and the forced transformation of Tibetan children into Chinese. We want to instill a sense of activism and nationalism among Tibet’s younger generation.”
Theatre as a Tool for Activism
🎤 Tenzin Lhakphel, a Tibetan monk and artist, spoke about the power of theatre in advocacy:
“Theatre is a very powerful tool, not just for Tibet but for every cause. Through this, we want to show the world that Tibet is still burning, and our generation must make tremendous efforts to fight for it.”
Political & Religious Repression in Tibet
📌 Dolma Gyari, Minister for the Department of Security in the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, attended as the chief guest and reflected on the play’s emotional impact:
“The play strongly depicts the situation in Tibet—how even owning a photograph of His Holiness or thinking about the true Panchen Lama is a crime. It also highlights the colonial boarding schools where over a million Tibetan children, even as young as four years old, are forcibly educated under Chinese control.”
💔 She described the heartbreaking sacrifice of Tibetan families, who send their children into exile so they can be raised in Tibetan traditions under the Dalai Lama’s guidance.
A Call for Unity & Resistance
The performance sent a powerful message of unity among Tibetans and called for continued resistance against oppression. The tour aims to reinforce Tibetan cultural identity and keep the struggle for Tibetan autonomy alive.
🚨 “A Fearless Voice” is not just a play—it’s a movement.
Stay tuned for updates as the troupe travels across India.
