Three More Parties Break Away From Hurriyat, Signal Growing Trust In Indian Constitution: Amit Shah

New Delhi [India], April 8: In a major political shift in Jammu and Kashmir, three more separatist-aligned organisations — Jammu Kashmir Islamic Political Party, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Democratic League, and Kashmir Freedom Front — have officially severed ties with the Hurriyat Conference, further weakening the once-powerful separatist coalition.

The development is being seen as a growing sign of public trust in the Constitution of India and the vision of a unified nation.

Amit Shah Hails Move as “Prominent Demonstration of Trust”

Reacting to the news, Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared a statement on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the significance of this decision:

“Three more organizations—Jammu Kashmir Islamic Political Party, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Democratic League, and Kashmir Freedom Front—disassociate themselves from the Hurriyat. It is a prominent demonstration of the people’s trust in the Constitution of India within the valley.”

He added that 11 such organisations have now renounced separatism:

“Modi Ji’s vision for a united and powerful Bharat stands even more bolstered today, as so far 11 such organizations have shunned separatism, proclaiming unwavering support for it.”

Continued Breakdown of Hurriyat

Last month, four Hurriyat-linked groups—J&K Tahreeqi Isteqlal, Tahreek-I-Istiqamat, People’s Movement, and the Democratic Political Movement—also distanced themselves from separatist ideologies and expressed support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of unity.

The government views this trend as a breakthrough in efforts to restore peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, and to further integrate the Union Territory into the national mainstream.

Policy of Zero Tolerance Towards Terrorism

The latest developments come after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), on March 11, banned two major Hurriyat-associated organisations — the Awami Action Committee led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and the Jammu and Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen led by Masroor Abbas Ansari — for five years over alleged anti-national activities.

In the recently concluded Budget Session of Parliament, Amit Shah stated that from 2019 to 2024, a total of 14 Hurriyat-affiliated organisations were banned. He asserted that the Hurriyat, which once played a key role in Pakistan-mediated dialogues, has now been effectively dismantled.

“Gone Are the Days of Leniency”: Shah

Shah also took a swipe at previous administrations for what he called a “lenient” stance on terrorism:

“Earlier governments hesitated to act strongly due to vote bank politics. Under Modi Ji’s leadership, we have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, and we are seeing the results.”

The exit of these organisations from the Hurriyat fold marks a turning point in the political narrative of Kashmir, signaling what the Centre hopes is a lasting shift toward reconciliation and peace in the Valley.
