Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], February 17: Three Indian immigrants from Gujarat, who had been deported from the United States, were brought to Ahmedabad on Monday. This marks the third batch of illegal Indian immigrants being sent back to their respective states after being deported from the US.
The batch of deportees arrived just a day after a second group of Indian nationals, who had allegedly illegally migrated to the US, landed in Amritsar. Earlier, on Sunday, a plane carrying 112 such deportees landed in Punjab’s Amritsar.
Amritsar’s Deputy Commissioner, Sakshi Sawhney, confirmed the arrival of the third batch, with the deportees expected to be transferred to their home states shortly. On Saturday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann assured that all necessary arrangements were being made for the deportees’ accommodation. He mentioned that the individuals would stay in Amritsar for a few hours before being sent to their respective states.
“Our kids are the ones who are coming here anyway, so from here no one can go hungry, we will make arrangements. We have also made staying arrangements for them. They will stay here for a few hours and then go to their respective states as the flights have been booked by the Ministry of External Affairs already,” said Chief Minister Mann in a press conference.
This deportation follows a US Air Force plane’s arrival in Amritsar on February 5, carrying Indian nationals allegedly involved in illegal migration. On February 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India’s willingness to repatriate its nationals residing illegally in the US and emphasized the need to dismantle the human trafficking ecosystem. He also expressed confidence that US President Donald Trump would cooperate fully in addressing this issue.
