Thirty-Three Teachers Dismissed In Bihar’s Gopalganj District After High Court Upholds Decision On Irregular Appointments

Gopalganj (Bihar) [India], March 22: Thirty-three teachers in Bihar’s Gopalganj district were dismissed from their positions after the High Court upheld the decision of the State Appellate Authority regarding their irregular appointments, an official confirmed on Saturday.

The teachers had been appointed to teaching positions that were never officially declared vacant following the resignation or death of the previous occupants. According to District Education Officer (DEO) Yogesh Kumar, certain positions had remained unfilled after the original teachers resigned or passed away after 2010. However, these vacancies were not formally declared, and the District Appellate Authority subsequently declared the posts vacant and appointed the 33 teachers.

“After 2010, some seats, where the original teachers had either died or resigned, were not declared vacant. However, the District Appellate Authority declared these seats vacant and appointed these (33) teachers to those positions. Against this order, we took the matter to the State Appellate Authority, which ordered that these teachers be relieved from service and the salaries paid to them be recovered,” DEO Yogesh Kumar explained.

Following this decision, the affected teachers approached the High Court, challenging the ruling of the State Appellate Authority. However, the High Court upheld the decision, further confirming the dismissal of the teachers.

The ruling has led to the dismissal of the teachers and the recovery of salaries paid to them since their appointment.
