Agra (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 2: A thick layer of fog blanketed Agra city on Thursday, severely reducing visibility and causing disruptions. The dense fog also shrouded the iconic Taj Mahal, making it barely visible in the haze.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a minimum temperature of 10°C and a maximum of 19°C for Agra today. The region was predicted to experience a ‘cold day,’ with the weather conditions significantly affecting daily activities.
Mathura city in Uttar Pradesh also experienced a similar weather phenomenon, with thick fog resulting in poor visibility and traffic congestion.
Meanwhile, the national capital, Delhi, is facing a sharp dip in temperatures, with the minimum temperature at Palam recorded at 6.5°C on Thursday, down from 7°C on Wednesday. At Safdarjung, the minimum temperature rose slightly to 7.6°C from 7.4°C on the previous day.
The IMD has forecast an average minimum temperature of 8°C for Delhi, with a maximum temperature of around 17°C. An active western disturbance is expected to affect temperatures in eastern, central, and northern India over the next 3-5 days, while heavy rain and snowfall are predicted for the Western Himalayan region.
“We are forecasting an active western disturbance starting today. Temperatures in east, central, and north India are expected to rise over the next 3-5 days,” said IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy.
