“They Didn’t Look In Race…”: Sanjay Manjrekar On Mumbai Indians’ Performance Against Gujarat Titans

Ahmedabad [India], March 30 : Gujarat Titans (GT) secured a 36-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 9th match of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday, extending their unbeaten record against MI in Ahmedabad to 4-0.

Match Summary

  • GT Innings: 196/8 (20 overs)
  • MI Innings: 160/6 (20 overs)
  • GT won by 36 runs

GT’s Dominant Batting Display

Winning the toss, MI opted to bowl first, hoping to take advantage of early conditions. GT openers Shubman Gill (38 off 27) and Sai Sudharsan (63 off 41) provided a strong foundation with a 78-run partnership. Sudharsan continued his fine form, building another crucial stand with Jos Buttler (39 off 24), pushing GT towards a competitive total.

Despite a late-order collapse, GT posted 196/8, thanks to power-hitting and disciplined batting. Hardik Pandya (2/29) was the standout bowler for MI, while Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Satyanarayana Raju chipped in with a wicket each.

MI’s Struggles in the Chase

Chasing 197, MI suffered early setbacks, losing Rohit Sharma (8) and Ryan Rickelton cheaply. Despite a 62-run partnership between Tilak Varma (39 off 36) and Suryakumar Yadav (48 off 28), MI struggled to keep up with the required run rate. The middle order failed to accelerate, leading to a disappointing total of 160/6.

For GT, Prasidh Krishna (2/18) and Mohammed Siraj (2/34) were the top performers with the ball, while Kagiso Rabada and Sai Kishore also contributed with wickets.

Sanjay Manjrekar’s Analysis

Speaking to JioHotstar, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar noted that MI fell behind early in the chase and never recovered.

“Mumbai Indians didn’t look in the race after losing two wickets for 35. In contrast, Gujarat Titans had around 129 runs for their first two wickets. The required run rate kept increasing, and though Tilak and Suryakumar tried building a partnership, MI struggled to keep up.”

He further added that GT batted better and got 15-20 runs over par, while dew not setting in made MI’s chase even tougher. Despite two losses in a row, Manjrekar believes MI can still bounce back in the tournament.

Head-to-Head & Points Table Update

  • GT vs MI in Ahmedabad: 4-0
  • Overall Head-to-Head: 4-2 in favor of GT
  • GT earns 2 points, strengthening their position in the IPL 2025 table.

With the 18th season of IPL in full swing, GT’s victory reinforces their credentials as one of the tournament’s strongest teams, while MI will need to regroup quickly to stay in contention.
