The Witcher Season 4: Liam Hemsworth Steps In as Geralt, But The Shadow of Henry Cavill Remains

Netflix has officially unveiled the first-look teaser for The Witcher Season 4, confirming that Liam Hemsworth will take over the iconic role of Geralt of Rivia from Henry Cavill. The highly anticipated season is set to premiere on the streaming platform on October 30, 2025.

In a minute-long teaser, Hemsworth is seen as Geralt battling a wraith. The clip showcases his take on the monster hunter, as he first attempts to defeat the ghostly spirit with his sword and Witcher Signs, before finally crushing the dark, glowing mass at its core. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has stated that Season 4 marks the beginning of a “two-season journey” to reunite the show’s main characters.

The announcement has garnered a wide range of reactions from the show’s dedicated fanbase. Many expressed their lingering loyalty to Henry Cavill, with one fan commenting, “This tv show without Henry Cavill is like Pirates of Caribbean without Johny Depp!” Others, however, are willing to give Hemsworth a chance. One fan noted, “I’m lying if I didn’t say that Liam looks really good as Geralt here,” while another, referencing his brother, joked, “Thor visits the Continent!”

The new season, which consists of eight episodes, will see returning cast members Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Joey Batey as Jaskier. It was previously announced that the series will conclude with a fifth and final season. While the change in lead actor has been a contentious topic since Cavill’s departure in 2022, the first teaser provides a glimpse into the new era of the fantasy epic.
