The Sandman Set To Conclude With Season 2

Los Angeles [US], February 1: The Sandman series, based on Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed DC comic, will come to an end with its upcoming second season, confirmed showrunner Allan Heinberg. The series debuted in August 2022 and was renewed in November of the same year. Initially, Netflix referred to the upcoming season as a “continuation” rather than a traditional new season, according to Variety.

Heinberg shared that the decision to conclude the show after Season 2 was made early in the process. “The Sandman has always centered on Dream’s story, and when we reviewed the remaining material in 2022, we realized we had enough content for only one more season,” he explained in a statement. He also expressed his appreciation to Netflix for supporting the show’s faithful adaptation of the comics.

Set for release in 2025, Season 2 will adapt the Season of Mists storyline. In this arc, Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie) steps down as the ruler of Hell, passing the key to Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), sparking a struggle for power among several powerful beings.

Returning cast members from Season 1 include Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Jenna Coleman, and Christie. New faces joining the cast include Esme Creed-Miles as Delirium, Adrian Lester as Destiny, and Barry Sloane as “The Prodigal.”

Sources indicate that the decision to end The Sandman after Season 2 was made well before any recent allegations against Gaiman arose, with the show’s production team planning the series’ conclusion by mid-2023.
