The Roshans Trailer Unveiled: A Glimpse Into The Legacy Of Bollywood’s Iconic Family

The much-anticipated trailer for the documentary series The Roshans was released on Thursday, featuring Hrithik Roshan, Rakesh Roshan, Rajesh Roshan, and Netflix VP Monika Shergill at the launch event. Directed by Shashi Ranjan, the series provides an intimate portrayal of three generations of the Roshan family and their significant contributions to Indian cinema.

At the event, Hrithik Roshan shared an emotional anecdote about working with legendary actor Rajinikanth during his childhood. Reflecting on his experience filming Bhagwaan Dada (1986), directed by his maternal grandfather J. Om Prakash, Hrithik fondly recalled:

“I had no idea that I was standing with the greatest legend of all time. For me, he was Rajni uncle. I used to talk to him like, ‘Yeah, no.’… I had my way with him.”

He further praised Rajinikanth’s kindness and humility, recounting how the superstar took the blame for his mistakes during filming to protect the young actor’s confidence:

“Whenever I messed up a shot, my grandfather used to cut the shot. And Rajni sir used to take the blame, saying, sorry, sorry, sorry. My fault. But it was my fault. Every single time I made a mistake, Rajni sir took the blame so that the child would not become conscious. So it was incredible.”

The film Bhagwaan Dada starred Rajinikanth in the lead role, alongside Rakesh Roshan and the late Sridevi. Before his leading debut in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), Hrithik had appeared in several films as a child actor, including Aasha and Aap Ke Deewane.

A Legacy of Artistry

The trailer begins with Hrithik narrating the story behind the Roshan family’s surname transition from Nagrath to Roshan, a legacy started by his grandfather, Roshan Lal Nagrath. Singer Asha Bhosle is featured, marveling at the family’s artistic contributions and their lasting legacy.

The series also showcases tributes from prominent Bollywood personalities, including:

  • Shah Rukh Khan, who humorously compares Rajesh and Rakesh Roshan to Karan Arjun.
  • Ranbir Kapoor, describing Hrithik as a “phenomenon.”
  • Appearances by Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Sonu Nigam, Preity Zinta, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali add depth to the narrative of the Roshan family’s profound influence on Indian cinema.

Hrithik’s evolution from a shy individual to a Bollywood megastar is a recurring theme in the series. Speaking about this transformation, Hrithik notes:

“It’s a very interesting story how our surname went from Nagrath to Roshan.”
