Washington [US], January 7: Fans of the hit post-apocalyptic series The Last of Us can mark their calendars, as the long-awaited Season 2 is confirmed to premiere in April 2025. The exact date will be announced soon, as revealed by co-creator and executive producer Neil Druckmann during Sony’s CES 2025 press conference and on social media, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The second season will consist of seven episodes, continuing the gripping story of survival in a world ravaged by the Cordyceps infection. Set five years after the events of Season 1, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), along with Joel’s brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna), will face new challenges, dangers, and evolving dynamics.
Season 2 introduces new characters, including Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever, whose role is teased in a newly released 30-second trailer featuring both returning and fresh footage. Other new cast members include Jeffrey Wright, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino (as Jesse), Ariela Barer (as Mel), Tati Gabrielle (as Nora), Spencer Lord (as Owen), and Danny Ramirez (as Manny).
The official logline for the season states, “Five years after the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
The season continues the collaboration between Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, who serve as executive producers and writers. Sony Pictures Television produces the series, with other executive producers including Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells. Halley Gross returns as a co-executive producer and writer.
