Washington DC [US], May 23: Fashion fans and film buffs rejoice—the highly anticipated sequel to the iconic comedy-drama The Devil Wears Prada has finally received a release date. Disney has officially confirmed that the sequel will premiere on May 1, 2026, as reported by Variety.
Speculation around the sequel has been swirling for months, and now with an official date set, excitement is reaching new heights. However, despite reports that Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt are expected to reprise their iconic roles, the studio has not yet confirmed the returning cast.
Originally based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling 2003 novel, The Devil Wears Prada followed Andrea Sachs (played by Anne Hathaway), a journalism graduate who lands a job as the assistant to the formidable Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), editor-in-chief of the fictional Runway magazine. Emily Blunt played Emily, Priestly’s senior assistant, while Stanley Tucci portrayed Nigel, the fashion-savvy editor who becomes Andy’s mentor.
Tucci, in a recent interview with Variety, shared his excitement:
“I know they’re working on it. If it happens, I would be so happy, but I cannot give you any information. Otherwise, I’ll go to the actor’s prison or something. The original was one of the best experiences ever.”
The sequel reportedly follows Miranda Priestly navigating the challenges of a collapsing print magazine industry, as she finds herself in competition with Blunt’s character, now a powerful executive at a luxury conglomerate holding the advertising dollars Priestly desperately needs.
The official release date was revealed as part of Disney’s new theatrical calendar, which also included the postponement of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday (now releasing Dec. 18, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (rescheduled for Dec. 17, 2027).
