Washington DC [US], July 31: A new multi-camera sitcom titled Hotel Sofia is currently in development at NBC, with Maria Ferrari and Andy Gordon, acclaimed writers from The Big Bang Theory, at the helm.
According to Deadline, the comedy will center on a female hotel owner in Greece, an expatriate who runs a hotel catering to American foreign exchange students. The premise suggests the owner will “dispense wisdom as she works to rebuild her own life.”
Susan Rovner is on board as executive producer under her Aha Studios banner. This project marks a significant reunion for Ferrari, Gordon, and Rovner, all of whom previously worked together at Warner Bros. TV, where Rovner served as president and Ferrari and Gordon were key writers on the hugely popular The Big Bang Theory.
While details regarding the cast have not yet been revealed, the involvement of such seasoned comedy writers and producers has generated considerable anticipation among fans.
Maria Ferrari’s impressive resume also includes co-creating and co-running The United States of Al and contributing to the writing teams of Young Sheldon and Call Me Kat. Andy Gordon’s extensive career in television spans decades, with writing and producing credits on beloved NBC comedies such as Mad About You, NewsRadio, Just Shoot Me!, and DAG (which he co-created). He later went on to create Nickelodeon’s True Jackson, VP and worked on ABC’s Last Man Standing and Modern Family.
Hotel Sofia is the latest high-profile project for Susan Rovner’s Aha Studios, which she launched last year. Her studio is also behind other ventures, including a one-hour drama titled Barneys New York at MGM Amazon and the CBS cooking series America’s Culinary Cup, starring and executive produced by Padma Lakshmi.
