The Batman Part II Script Complete, Release Date Set For 2027: Matt Reeves Confirms Progress

Director Matt Reeves has finally offered fans a much-anticipated update on The Batman Part II. After months of speculation, delays, and silence, the sequel to the 2022 blockbuster is officially back on track—with a confirmed release date of October 1, 2027.

Matt Reeves Breaks the Silence

On Friday, Reeves took to Instagram to share a major development: the script is finished. He posted a photo showing the first page of the screenplay—blurred, except for the unmistakable Batman logo. In his caption, Reeves wrote:

“Partners in Crime (Fighters),”
tagging co-writer Mattson Tomlin, who also contributed to the original film’s story.

While no plot details were revealed, the image alone was enough to reignite excitement among fans. The post also confirmed that Tomlin is once again collaborating with Reeves, signaling a return to the creative foundation of the first film.

James Gunn to Fans: “Trust the Process”

With the sequel taking more than five years to arrive after the first installment, many fans expressed frustration over the long delay. Addressing these concerns, DC Studios co-head James Gunn stepped in during an Entertainment Weekly interview:

“Let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs,” he urged.

“You like his movie because of Matt,” Gunn emphasized. “So let Matt do things the way he does.”

Gunn’s message was clear: good storytelling takes time, and fans should allow Reeves the creative space he needs.

Will Robert Pattinson Return?

While no official casting announcements have been made, Robert Pattinson is widely expected to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman. His darker, more grounded portrayal was a standout aspect of the first film, which was both a critical and commercial success when it released in March 2022.

A Standalone Vision: DC Elseworlds

Unlike the new projects being launched under James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe, The Batman Part II will remain part of DC’s Elseworlds label. This means it will continue as a self-contained story, without the pressure of fitting into a broader cinematic universe.

With the script completed and the release date set, The Batman Part II is finally gaining momentum. The road to 2027 is long, but fans now have a concrete sign that Gotham will rise again—with Matt Reeves firmly in control of the Bat-Signal.
