Shashi Tharoor, Indian Delegation Condemn Colorado Terror Attack; Express Solidarity With Victims

Brasilia: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is leading an Indian all-party MPs’ delegation, expressed concern and relief on Monday over the terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, where six Israeli supporters were injured in what US authorities are calling a “targeted act of terror.”

Indian Lawmakers Condemn the Attack

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Tharoor said:

“Members of the Indian MPs’ delegation learnt with concern about the terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, today. We are relieved there was no loss of life. We all share the Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s view that ‘terror has no place’ in our countries.”

Tharoor and the delegation are currently in Brazil, as part of their ongoing global outreach tour and are scheduled to travel to the United States tomorrow.

Details of the Boulder Attack

According to Fox News and law enforcement officials, Mohamed Sabry Soliman (45) was arrested on Sunday afternoon after setting Israeli supporters on fire near the Pearl Street courthouse in Boulder, Colorado.

  • Victims: Six individuals, aged 67 to 88, were hospitalized.
  • Motive: Soliman reportedly shouted “Free Palestine” during the attack.
  • Target: The victims were participating in a peaceful demonstration organized by “Run for Their Lives,” a grassroots movement advocating for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn confirmed the weaponized attack and noted that the assailant was swiftly apprehended.

FBI Confirms Terror Angle

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has charged Soliman with conducting a “targeted terror attack.”
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said the act was being treated as ideologically motivated violence based on initial evidence.

FBI Director Kash Patel, in a post on X, stated:

“We are aware of and fully investigating a targeted terror attack in Boulder, Colorado. Our agents and local law enforcement are on the scene already, and we will share updates as more information becomes available.”

Indian Delegation in Brazil

The Indian parliamentary delegation, led by Tharoor, was warmly received in Brasilia by Sandeep Kumar Kujur, Charge d’Affaires of the Indian Embassy in Brazil.

The visit to Brazil is part of India’s broader international engagement to promote democratic values, global security, and bilateral cooperation. The delegation is scheduled to continue its engagements in the United States, where discussions on counter-terrorism, diaspora outreach, and global cooperation are expected to be high on the agenda.

Conclusion:
The Boulder attack has drawn global condemnation, and the Indian delegation’s statement reinforces India’s stance on zero tolerance for terrorism, regardless of geography or ideology. The upcoming leg of the delegation’s tour to the US is likely to see stronger coordination on counter-terrorism efforts and solidarity with victims of ideological violence.
