State-level tennis player Radhika Yadav was shot four times, according to her autopsy report, despite the FIR initially stating three gunshots. The clarification came on Friday, a day after her father Deepak Yadav allegedly murdered her in their Sector 57 home over a family dispute regarding her tennis academy.
The postmortem report revealed that one of the bullets had a through-and-through trajectory, entering and exiting the body, causing injuries at two separate locations — which likely led to the earlier miscount in the FIR. Overall, four entry wounds were confirmed.
Deepak Yadav, who has confessed to the killing, was remanded to one-day police custody by a local court on Friday. He told police that he was opposed to his daughter running a tennis academy, claiming their family was financially sound and she had no need to work. However, Radhika refused to shut it down, choosing instead to pursue her passion.
“Even after being asked to close the training academy multiple times, she refused to do so, which led to a family dispute. In a fit of rage, he shot his daughter three times using his licensed weapon,” said Gurugram Police PRO Sandeep Kumar, as quoted by ANI.
According to police, the incident occurred in the kitchen of the family’s home around 10:30 am on Thursday. Radhika’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, who resides on the second floor, told officers that he rushed downstairs after hearing a loud noise.
“I saw my niece Radhika lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen. My son, Piyush Yadav, also rushed to the first floor,” Kuldeep said in his statement to police, as reported by PTI.
Radhika was immediately rushed to a private hospital but succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Deepak Yadav, who runs a rental business, had often expressed dissatisfaction over societal remarks about living off his daughter’s income, police said. His mental state and motives are still being probed, and other angles — including reported objections to her social media activity — are also being investigated.
