In a major crackdown on unauthorized medicine sales, the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana conducted a raid on an unlicensed godown in Uppal Khalsa, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, leading to the seizure of illegally stocked medicines worth Rs. 6.70 lakh. The raid, carried out on February 18, 2025, was based on credible information about the unlawful storage of medicines.
The raid targeted a godown at D. No: 24-97-28/A, Ground Floor, Laxmi Narayana Nagar Colony, Uppal Khalsa Village, Uppal Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, where Addanki Venkata Suresh Babu had been found storing drugs without a valid drug license. During the inspection, DCA officials discovered a large quantity of medicines, including six types of expired drugs, such as abortion kits, analgesics, and antihistaminic drugs.
The seized medicines, totaling Rs. 6.70 lakh, were confiscated by the authorities, and samples were sent for analysis. Key officials involved in the raid included Anjum Abida, Assistant Director, Shameerpet, B. Lakshmi Narayana, Drugs Inspector, Uppal, B. Praveen, Drugs Inspector, Shameerpet, and P. Ambedkar, Drugs Inspector, Medipally.
Further investigations are underway, and strict action will be taken against all offenders involved. Wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unauthorized stockists are also liable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. They are required to ensure that recipients have a valid drug license before supplying any medicines.
According to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, stocking drugs for sale without a license is a punishable offense, carrying a penalty of up to five years of imprisonment. The DCA has warned that stringent action will be taken against all those found guilty in this illegal trade.
