Patna (Bihar) [India], March 17 : Amid growing speculations about the potential entry of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, into politics, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has called for a clear statement from the Chief Minister on the matter. Tejashwi emphasized that if questions were being raised regarding Nishant’s political future, it was the responsibility of Nitish Kumar to come forward and clarify whether his son would be joining active politics.

Tejashwi stated, “If questions are being raised, then the CM should come and clarify… If he is coming or not coming into active politics, the CM should answer it. How can we say anything about this? But the law and order situation is very poor, and everyone is feeling unsafe in Bihar.” His comments were made in response to posters that were put up by JD(U) supporters in Patna, seemingly backing Nishant Kumar.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi downplayed the speculation, stating that many political families in India have seen their children join politics, and there was nothing extraordinary about it. He praised Nishant, calling him “capable and competent” and welcomed the idea of his joining politics, saying, “If Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant wants to come into politics, then what is there to discuss about it? He is capable and competent. If he wants to come (into politics), we will welcome him.”
The speculation surrounding Nishant’s political ambitions gained traction after he was seen with JD(U) leadership during Holi celebrations. A poster expressing support for Nishant Kumar further fueled the rumors, with the message reading, “Bihar ki maang, sun liye Nishant, bahut bahut dhanyawaad (Nishant, thank you very much for listening to the demands of Bihar).”
On a different issue, Manjhi condemned the actions of RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav, following a viral video that showed police personnel dancing at his Holi celebration. Manjhi criticized the behavior, linking it to misuse of power, and suggested that if RJD members gained more influence, similar actions could become common. He warned that this would lead to a misuse of authority, with officers being forced to comply with demands or face suspension.
His comments followed a controversial incident where MLA Tej Pratap Yadav was seen asking a policeman to “dance or be suspended” during his Holi celebrations at his official residence in Patna on March 14.
As Bihar prepares for assembly elections later this year, political developments and family dynamics are sure to be a key focus in the coming months.
