New Delhi [India]: Tejas Dhirenbhai Karia was sworn in as a Judge of the Delhi High Court on Friday, with Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay administering the oath during a ceremony at the Delhi High Court premises.
The event saw the presence of sitting judges, bar leaders, advocates, and family members, marking a significant moment in the judiciary.
Supreme Court Collegium’s Recommendation
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Tejas Dhirenbhai Karia for appointment as a Delhi High Court judge in August 2024, citing his expertise in arbitration law. The Central government approved his appointment and issued a notification on February 12, 2025.
Highlighting the necessity of specialized expertise in arbitration cases at the Delhi High Court, the Collegium stated:
“The volume of cases on arbitration law requires specialized handling. Tejas Dhirenbhai Karia will be a valuable addition to the Bench.”
Legal Expertise and Experience
Karia has extensive experience in arbitration law, handling domestic and international arbitrations, as well as cases before various High Courts and the Supreme Court. His practice also includes civil procedure, evidence, and commercial law, making him well-suited for his new role.
Recognizing his significant contributions, the Supreme Court Collegium noted:
“His judgments and legal arguments reflect his capability in handling substantial legal matters, proving his suitability for the position.”
With this appointment, Justice Tejas Dhirenbhai Karia is expected to play a key role in shaping arbitration law and judicial proceedings at the Delhi High Court.
