Tej Pratap Yadav, son of Lalu Prasad Yadav and former leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has released the first list of 22 candidates from his new political party, the Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD), for the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections.
Tej Pratap, who started his new party this year after being kicked out of the RJD, will run for office in the Mahua constituency in Vaishali district. This is the same seat he had until 2020, when his old party moved him to Hasanpur.
This statement is a big deal in Bihar politics since Tej Pratap is trying to make a name for himself apart from his father’s famous RJD history.
Announced: Important Seats and Candidates
The JJD’s initial list has candidates from important political areas like Patna, Bhojpur, Gopalganj, and Samastipur.
Madan Yadav, the JJD state president, stated when he announced the list,
“Our national president, Tej Pratap Yadav, will run for the assembly from the Mahua constituency in the Vaishali district.”
Some important names among the 22 applicants are:
Sanjay Yadav—Madhepura
Taurif Rahman from Narkatiaganj
Dharmendra—Barauli
Braj Bihari Bhatt – Kuchaikot
Bathnaha by Vikas Kumar Kavi
Barhara’s Madan Yadav
Dr. Gajraj Yadav lives in Bakhtiyarpur.
Arjun Kumar—Phulwari
Neeraj Rai from Jagdishpur
Nitinanand Kumar Soni lives in Sherghati.
Prem Kumar—Imamganj
Benipatti’s Amit Kumar Jha
Maner: Shashank Yadav
This list shows that the JJD wants to grow its political presence in many parts of Bihar, especially in areas where there are a lot of Yadav and backward-class voters.
The Bihar Elections: When and Why
The Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 will take place in two parts, on November 6 and November 11. The results will be announced on November 14.
Political experts saw Tej Pratap’s intention to run for office in Mahua as a symbolic return to his political roots. He has strong feelings about the seat because it was where he started his career in politics.
Split with RJD and the start of JJD
Tej Pratap Yadav left the RJD when his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, kicked him out for six years in May 2025 because of “disciplinary issues.”
Tej Pratap was kicked out when he acknowledged on social media that he was dating a lady named Anushka. He later removed the message, saying that his account had been hijacked.
After the fallout, Tej Pratap started the Janshakti Janta Dal and promised to provide “clean, youth-driven, and transparent politics” to Bihar. Since then, he has been trying to engage with people on the ground and get RJD supporters who are unhappy with the party to join him.

Outlook
Political experts think that Tej Pratap’s JJD may not be a big danger to RJD or JD(U) right away, but his appeal among young people and Yadav groups could make him a spoiler in a few important areas.
As the elections get closer, the political scene in Bihar is getting ready for a multi-cornered race, with new parties and alliances getting ready for one of the state’s most important votes in recent years.
